Abstract
The described systems, methods and data structures are directed to a portable computing environment. A communication link is established between a portable device and a host device. The portable device is equipped with a processing unit and is configured to execute a process that is accessible by the host device. The host device includes an application configured to interact with the process on the portable device. The process on the portable device provides data to the application on the host device using the communication link. The application uses the data to provide a computing environment.
Claims28
A system for providing a computing environment to a host computing device, the system comprising:
- a host device configured to execute an application;
- and
- a portable device configured to connect to the host device, the portable device including a computing module and a memory, the memory including states associated with a process, the computing module configured to, upon being connected to the host device:
- identify the portable device to the host device,
- establish a communication link with the host device,
- instantiate the process,
- determine a second timing identifier associated with the process,
- enable an application on the host device to interact with the process based, at least in part, on a protocol when the second timing identifier is valid relative to the first timing identifier, and
- deny access to the process when the second timing identifier is invalid relative to the first timing identifier, wherein the second timing identifier is invalid when the second timing identifier represents a time that is after another time represented by the first timing identifier,
- the process on portable device being configured to augment the computing environment with data obtained from a server after the portable device is connected to the host device and to provide the augmented computing environment to the application on the host device.
A method for providing a computing environment solution comprising:
- providing a portable device configured with a computing module and a memory;
- storing states associated with a process in the memory, wherein the process is configured to generate a computing environment;
- configuring the portable device to, upon being connected to a host device:
- identify the portable device to the host device,
- establish a communication link with the host device,
- instantiate the process,
- determine a second timing identifier associated with the process,
- enable an application on the host device to interact with the process based, at least in part, on a protocol when the second timing identifier is valid relative to the first timing identifier, and
- deny access to the process when the second timing identifier is invalid relative to the first timing identifier, wherein the second timing identifier is invalid when the second timing identifier represents a time that is after another time represented by the first timing identifier,
- wherein the process is instantiated based, at least in part, on the stored states;
- causing the host device to open a browser configured to browse to a location associated with the portable device;
- providing the computing environment generated by the process on the portable device to the browser on the host device;
- offering web services configured to provide functionalities to the computing environment;
- and
- providing the functionalities to the browser on the host device by proxy through the portable device, providing the functionalities to the browser on the host device by proxy through the portable device including augmenting the computing environment with data obtained from a server after the portable device is connected to the host device and providing the augmented computing environment to the host device.
A system for providing a portable computing environment solution comprising:
- means for configuring a portable device with a computing module for providing web services, the means for configuring the portable device including means for, upon connecting the portable device to a host device, identifying the portable device to the host device, establishing a communication link with the host device, instantiating the process, determining a second timing identifier associated with the process, enabling an application on the host device to interact with the process based, at least in part, on a protocol when the second timing identifier is valid relative to the first timing identifier, and denying access to the process when the second timing identifier is invalid relative to the first timing identifier, wherein the second timing identifier is invalid when the second timing identifier represents a time that is after another time represented by the first timing identifier;
- means for connecting the portable device to the host device;
- means for instructing the host device to launch a browser;
- means for configuring the browser to browse to an address associated with the web services provided by the portable device;
- and
- means for the web services to provide a computing environment to the browser, the means for the web services to provide a computing environment to the browser including means to augment the computing environment with data obtained by the portable device from the web services after the portable device is connected to the host device and means to provide the augmented computing environment to the browser on the host device.
