Abstract
Mutations in the atypical protein kinase C-interacting protein p62/sequestosome 1 (p62/SQSTM1) causing Paget disease of bone are described. Methods of detecting and treating Paget disease of bone are also disclosed.
Claims2
A method of detecting Paget disease of bone in a human subject comprising:
- i) obtaining a sample from a human subject;
- ii) assaying the sample for a nucleic acid molecule encoding a mutated p62/SQSTM1 protein, wherein said nucleic acid molecule comprises the nucleic acid sequence of SEQ ID NO:3;
- and iii) determining that said human subject has Paget disease of bone if said nucleic acid molecule is present in the sample obtained from said human subject.
