Abstract
A method of benchmark testing, using test data, a component of a first computer system, using an additional computer system to restore said data.
Claims30
A method of benchmark testing using test data, the method comprising:
- creating master test data in master data storage accessible by an additional computer system, the master test data representing data on which benchmark testing is performed;
- creating, using the additional computer system, a first duplicate copy of the master test data in a first data storage accessible by a first computer system;
- executing, by the first computer system, a first benchmark test using the first duplicate copy of the master test data in the first data storage to identify a first performance characteristic of the first computer system in executing the first benchmark test using the first duplicate copy of the master test data, execution of the first benchmark test including accessing data from and writing data to the first data storage such that the first duplicate copy of the master test data is changed after completion of the first benchmark test;
- during execution of the first benchmark test by the first computer system, creating, using the additional computer system, a second duplicate copy of the master test data in a second data storage, the second data storage being different than the first data storage;
- detecting completion of the first benchmark test by the first computer system;
- and
- in response to detecting completion of the first benchmark test by the first computer system:
- making the second duplicate copy of the master test data in the second data storage accessible to the first computer system;
- and
- executing, by the first computer system, a second benchmark test using the second duplicate copy of the master test data in the second data storage to identify a second performance characteristic of the first computer system in executing the second benchmark test using the second duplicate copy of the master test data, executing of the second benchmark test including accessing data from and writing data to the second data storage such that the second duplicate copy of the master test data is changed after completion of the second benchmark test.
An apparatus for benchmark testing, the apparatus comprising a first computer system, an additional computer system, master data storage, a first data storage, and a second data storage,
- wherein the additional computer system is configured to:
- create master data in master data storage accessible by the additional computer system, the master test data representing data on which benchmark testing is performed;
- create a first duplicate copy of the master test data in the first data storage accessible by the first computer system;
- wherein the first computer system is configured to:
- execute a first benchmark test using the first duplicate copy of the master test data in the first data storage to identify a first performance characteristic of the first computer system in executing the first benchmark test using the first duplicate copy of the master test data, execution of the first benchmark test including accessing data from and writing data to the first data storage such that the first duplicate copy of the master test data is changed after completion of the first benchmark test;
- wherein the additional computer system is further configured to:
- during execution of the first benchmark test by the first computer system, create, using the additional computer system, a second duplicate copy of the master test data in second data storage, the second data storage being different than the first data storage;
- and
- wherein the first computer system is further configured to:
- in response to detecting completion of the first benchmark test:
- access the second duplicate copy of the master test data in the second data storage, and
- execute a second benchmark test using the second duplicate copy of the master test data in the second data storage to identify a second performance characteristic of the first computer system in executing the second benchmark test using the second duplicate copy of the master test data, execution of the second benchmark test including accessing data from and writing data to the second data storage such that the second duplicate copy of the master test data is changed after completion of the second benchmark test.
A computer program, stored on a computer-readable storage medium, for controlling at least two computer systems to perform a method of benchmark testing, the computer program including instructions for causing a computer to:
- create master test data in master data storage accessible by an additional computer system, the master test data representing data on which benchmark testing is performed;
- create, using the additional computer system, a first duplicate copy of the master test data in a first data storage accessible by a first computer system;
- execute, by the first computer system, a first benchmark test using the first duplicate copy of the master test data in the first data storage to identify a first performance characteristic of the first computer system in executing the first benchmark test using the first duplicate copy of the master test data, execution of the first benchmark test including accessing data from and writing data to the first data storage such that the first duplicate copy of the master test data is changed after completion of the first benchmark test;
- during execution of the first benchmark test by the first computer system, create, using the additional computer system, a second duplicate copy of the master test data in a second data storage, the second data storage being different than the first data storage;
- detect completion of the first benchmark test by the first computer system;
- and
- in response to detecting completion of the first benchmark test by the first computer system:
- make the second duplicate copy of the master test data in the second data storage accessible to the first computer system;
- and
- execute, by the first computer system, a second benchmark test using the second duplicate copy of the master test data in the second data storage to identify a second performance characteristic of the first computer system in executing the second benchmark test using the second duplicate copy of the master test data, execution of the second benchmark test including accessing data from and writing data to the second data storage such that the second duplicate copy of the master test data is changed after completion of the second benchmark test.
