Abstract
A method of encoding digital samples of a set of data representing physical quantities, the encoding including the determination of a path among the samples of the set. The method includes measuring an encoding cost which depends on the path, and modifying the path, the steps of measuring and modifying being reiterated so as to determine a path which minimizes the encoding cost.
Claims21
A method of encoding digital samples of a set of data representing physical quantities, the method comprising the steps of:
- determining a path among the samples of the set;
- measuring an encoding cost which depends on the path;
- modifying the path;
- and
- reiterating said steps of measuring and modifying so as to determine a path which minimizes the encoding cost,
- in which said measuring step includes calculating a rate used to encode each sample according to the path, and
- in which updating of the rate is carried out every N iterations, with N being an integer greater than or equal to two.
A method of encoding digital samples of a set of data representing physical quantities, the method comprising the steps of:
- determining a path among the samples of the set;
- measuring an encoding cost which depends on the path;
- modifying the path;
- and
- reiterating said steps of measuring and modifying so as to determine a path which minimizes the encoding cost,
- in which said measuring step includes calculating a rate used to encode each sample according to the path, and
- in which calculating the rate includes calculating an occurrence count of a vector describing a location of each sample with respect to a preceding sample in the path.
A device for encoding digital samples of a set of data representing physical quantities, said device comprising:
- means for determining a path among the samples of the set;
- means for measuring an encoding cost which depends on the path;
- means for modifying the path;
- and
- means for reiterating operation of the means for measuring and the means for modifying so as to determine a path which minimizes the encoding cost,
- wherein said means for measuring the encoding cost comprises means for calculating a rate used to encode each sample according to the path, and
- said device being adapted to update the rate every N iterations, with N being an integer greater than or equal to two.
A device for encoding digital samples of a set of data representing physical quantities, said device comprising:
- means for determining a path among the samples of the set;
- means for measuring an encoding cost which depends on the path;
- means for modifying the path;
- and
- means for reiterating operation of the means for measuring and the means for modifying so as to determine a path which minimizes the encoding cost,
- wherein said means for measuring the encoding cost comprises means for calculating a rate used to encode each sample according to the path, and
- wherein said means for calculating the rate are adapted to calculate an occurrence count of a vector describing a location of each sample with respect to a preceding sample in the path.
