Abstract
A laser medium includes a single crystal of chromium-doped LiScl-xInxGe1-ySiyO4, where 0≦x≦1 and 0≦y≦1. Preferably, x and y are not both 0. A laser, such as a tunable near infrared laser, can contain the laser medium.
Claims23
A laser medium, comprising:
- a single crystal of chromium-doped LiSc1-xInxGe1-ySiyO4, wherein 0≦x≦1 and 0≦y≦1 with the proviso that x and y are not both 0, wherein at least a portion of the chromium is in the form of Cr3+ ions and the Cr3+ ions are laser-active centers.
A laser comprising:
- a laser medium comprising a single crystal of chromium-doped LiSc1-xInxGe1-ySiyO4, wherein 0≦x≦1 and 0≦y≦1 with the proviso that x and y are not both 0, wherein at least a portion of the chromium is in the form of Cr3+ ions and the Cr3+ ions are laser-active centers;
- and
- at least one reflective element which is a least partially reflective at a laser frequency of the laser medium and is disposed to receive laser light from the laser medium.
A method of making a laser medium, the method comprising:
- forming a solution comprising at least one substituent for forming the laser medium disposed in a solvent, wherein the at least one substituent is selected from metal oxides, metal chlorides, and metal fluorides;
- and
- forming at least one crystal of chromium-doped LiSc1-xInxGe1-ySiyO4 from the solution, wherein 0≦x≦1 and 0≦y≦1 with the proviso that x and y are not both 0.
