Abstract
According to one method of simulation processing, a count event counter for a count event is created within instrumentation of a hardware description language (HDL) simulation model of a design and a threshold greater than 1 is established for the count event counter. The design is then simulated utilizing the HDL simulation model, and occurrences of the count event are accumulated in the count event counter to obtain a count event value. Thereafter, an indication of whether the count event value of the count event exceeds the threshold is recorded within a data storage subsystem.
Claims18
A method of simulation processing in a data processing system, said method comprising:
- within instrumentation of a hardware description language (HDL) simulation model of a design, creating a count event counter for a count event signifying occurrence of a sequence of one or more signal values within a portion of the HDL simulation model representing the design;
- establishing a threshold greater than 1 for said count event counter over a testcase;
- simulating the design utilizing the HDL simulation model, wherein the simulating includes:
- stimulating said HDL simulation model with the testcase;
- counting occurrences of said count event in said count event counter by the instrumentation of the HDL simulation model to obtain a count event value over the testcase;
- and
- recording, within a data storage subsystem, an indication of whether said count event value of said count event counter exceeded said threshold over the testcase.
A simulation processing system, said simulation processing system comprising:
- a processor;
- data storage coupled to the processor, said data storage including:
- a hardware description language (HDL) simulation model of a design, said HDL simulation model including a portion representing the design and instrumentation, wherein the instrumentation includes a count event counter for a count event signifying occurrence of a sequence of one or more signal values within the portion of the HDL simulation model representing the design, wherein the count event counter has an associated threshold greater than 1 over a testcase;
- a simulator that simulates the design utilizing the HDL simulation model by stimulating the HDL simulation model with the testcase, wherein during the simulation the instrumentation counts occurrences of said count event in said count event counter to obtain a count event value over the testcase;
- and
- reporting program code that reports, to a data storage subsystem, an indication of whether said count event value of said count event counter exceeded said threshold over the testcase.
An article of manufacture comprising a computer readable storage medium on which computer-executable program code for simulating a design is stored, said program code including:
- a hardware description language (HDL) simulation model of a design, said HDL simulation model including a portion representing the design and instrumentation, wherein the instrumentation includes a count event counter for a count event signifying occurrence of a sequence of one or more signal values within the portion of the HDL simulation model representing the design, wherein the count event counter has an associated threshold greater than 1 over a testcase;
- a simulator that simulates the design utilizing the HDL simulation model by stimulating the HDL simulation model with the testcase, wherein during the simulation the instrumentation counts occurrences of said count event in said count event counter to obtain a count event value over the testcase;
- and
- reporting program code that reports, to a data storage subsystem, an indication of whether said count event value of said count event counter exceeded said threshold over the testcase.
