Wireless communication method and apparatus for implementing access point startup and initial channel selection processes

A wireless communication method of performing a startup process of an access point (AP), the method comprising:

• performing a discovery phase including:
• initializing a plurality of measurement parameters and values;
• measuring a plurality of operating parameters by performing N measurement sets, wherein measurements are taken sequentially on each channel in an allowable channel set (ACS) for a period of time;
• invoking power control for the AP;
• and
• invoking initial channel selection to determine an optimal channel;
• and
• performing an announcement phase after the discovery phase ends, the announcement phase including:
• the AP configuring its operating channel to the optimal channel;
• and
• accelerating the detection of the AP by neighboring APs, wherein the AP only transmits beacon frames having a maximum AP transmission power and a beacon transmission period, and the AP denies any association requests received from a plurality of wireless transmit/receive units (WTRUs) during the announcement phase.
