Image processing method and apparatus and storage medium

An image processing apparatus for forming a histogram of an original image, setting an image processing condition in accordance with the formed histogram, and performing image processing for the original image, the apparatus comprising:

• a judging unit configured to judge from a distribution of the formed histogram whether the original image is an image picture;
• and
• a control unit configured to control such that a color fogging correction is performed for the original image if said judging unit judges that the original image is an image picture, and such that the color fogging correction is not performed for the original image if said judging unit judges that the original image is a graphics image.

A computer readable storage medium storing program steps for executing functions of an image processing apparatus for forming a histogram of an original image, setting an image processing condition in accordance with the formed histogram, and performing image processing for the original image, the program steps comprising:

• judging from a distribution of the formed histogram whether the original image is an image picture;
• and
• controlling such that a color fogging correction is performed for the original image if it is judged in said judging step that the original image is an image picture, and such that the color fogging correction is not performed for the original image if it is judged in said judging step that the original image is a graphics image.
