Abstract
An analog video receiver implemented in an integrated circuit device. The analog video receiver includes an amplifier to amplify an analog video signal having a desired carrier frequency, and a mixing circuit to mix the amplified analog video signal with a complex sinusoid having a frequency substantially equal to the carrier frequency.

An integrated circuit device to output video signals corresponding to a selected channel which is one of a plurality of channels of a broadcast spectrum,the integrated circuit device comprising:
- an amplifier to amplify an analog video signal having a desired carrier frequency which is associated with the selected channel;
- a mixing circuit, coupled to the amplifier, to receive the analog video signal and to (i) mix the analog video signal with a complex sinusoid having a frequency substantially equal to the carrier frequency of the analog video signal and (ii) output a first baseband video signal having an in-phase component and a quadrature component;
- local oscillator circuit, coupled to the mixing circuit, to generate and output the complex sinusoid signal;
- baseband demodulator circuitry, coupled to the mixing circuitry, to generate and output a second baseband video signal, which corresponds to the selected channel, using the first baseband video signal;
- and
- video decoder circuitry, coupled to the baseband demodulator circuitry, to generate a formatted video signal using the second baseband video signal, wherein the formatted video signal corresponds to the selected channel of the broadcast spectrum, and wherein the video decoder circuitry outputs the formatted video signal as a plurality of video frames and, in response to detecting a degradation in the quality of the second baseband video signal, outputs a video frame which is different from a video frame which corresponds to the second baseband video signal having a degradation in quality.
A video device to display a video image corresponding to a selected channel which is one of a plurality of channels of a broadcast spectrum, the video device comprising:
- an integrated circuit device including an input to receive an analog video signal having selected carrier frequency which is associated with the selected channel, a mixing circuit to generate a baseband version of the analog video signal by mixing the analog video signal with a complex sinusoid having a frequency substantially equal to the selected carrier frequency, a detector to detect a signal quality of the baseband video signal of the analog video signal and, wherein, when the detector detects a predetermined degradation in quality of the baseband version of the analog video signal, the detector outputs a frame hold signal, and a video recovery circuit to (i)convert the baseband version of the analog video signal into a formatted video output signal which corresponds to the selected channel and (ii) output the formatted video output signal, wherein in response to the frame hold signal, formatted the video recovery circuit outputs a formatted video output signal which is different from the formatted video output signal which corresponds to the baseband version of the analog video signal having the predetermined degradation in quality;
- and
- a display to display the video image conveyed in the video output signal.
A method of operation within an integrated circuit device to output video signals corresponding to a selected channel which is one of a plurality of channels of a broadcast spectrum, the method comprising:
- receiving an analog video signal having a carrier frequency which is associated with the selected channel;
- generating a baseband version of the analog video signal by mixing the analog video signal with a complex sinusoid having a frequency substantially equal to the carrier frequency of the analog video signal;
- detecting a signal quality of the baseband video signal of the analog video signal;
- generating a frame hold signal in response to detecting a predetermined degradation in quality of the baseband version of the analog video signal;
- generating a formatted video signal using the baseband video signal of the analog video signal;
- and
- outputting the formatted video signal corresponding to the selected channel and, in response to the frame hold signal. outputting a formatted video output signal which is different from the formatted video output signal corresponding to the selected channel.
An integrated circuit device to output video signals corresponding to a selected channel which is one of a plurality of channels of a broadcast spectrum, the integrated circuit comprising:
- means for receiving an analog video signal having carrier frequency which is associated with the selected channel;
- means for generating a baseband version of the analog video signal by mixing the analog video signal with a complex sinusoid having a frequency substantially equal to the carrier frequency of the analog video signal;
- means for detecting a signal quality of the baseband video signal of the analog video signal;
- means for generating a frame hold signal in response to detecting a predetermined degradation in quality of the baseband version of the analog video signal;
- means for generating a formatted video signal using the baseband video signal of the analog video signal;
- and
- means for outputting the formatted video signal corresponding to the selected channel and, in response to the frame hold signal. outputting a formatted video output signal which is different from the formatted video output signal corresponding to the selected channel.
