Abstract
The present invention provides DNA and RNA designed on the basis of the sequence of an enzyme gene for repressing the expression of the enzyme gene generating a lachrymatory factor from a precursor of the lachrymatory factor, and also a vector for introducing DNA for repressing the expression of the gene of the lachrymatory factor-producing enzyme into a vegetable.
Claims11
A construct comprising the isolated nucleic acid of SEQ ID NO:11 operably linked to a promoter in either sense or antisense orientation.
A construct comprising a promoter operably linked to a fragment of SEQ ID NO:11 having at least 22 contiguous bases of SEQ ID NO:11 and further comprising a nucleic acid that is complementary to the fragment such that the construct is effective for suppressing expression of an endogenous LFS gene, wherein a vegetable of genus Allium transformed with the construct has a lower level of lachrymatory factor compared to a non-transformed control vegetable of the same species.
