A method for treating hyperalgesia associated with Irritable Bowel Syndrome comprising administering to a subject in need of such treatment an effective amount of a direct and selective inhibitor of MLCK wherein said inhibitor is 1-(5-iodonaphthalene-1-sulfonyl)-1H-hexahydro-1,4-diazepine.
