Abstract
Certain substituted amines, alkylenediamines or polyamines, and derivatives of these, are suitable for use in preventing, inhibiting, or otherwise modifying crystalline gas hydrate formation. These inhibitors include compounds from any of the following groups. The substituents R1-R5 may be hydrocarbyl groups or, in some cases, polyhydroxyalkyl groups or (CH2)p—COO− in which p is either 1 or 2.
Claims4
A composition comprising water, a crude natural gas stream or crude petroleum stream comprising one or more lower hydrocarbons, and at least one compound capable of modifying gas hydrate formation selected from compounds according to the following formula:
- wherein each R1 is independently C1-C20 alkyl or benzyl;
- R3 is C1-C18 alkyl;
- n is an integer from 2 to 10;
- and X− is Cl−, Br−, I−, OH−, CH3COO−, ½ SO4−2, or ⅓ PO4−3.
A method of modifying gas hydrate formation, the method comprising contacting a crude natural gas stream or crude petroleum stream comprising water and one or more lower hydrocarbons with at least one compound capable of modifying gas hydrate formation selected from compounds according to the following formula:
- wherein each R1 is independently C1-C20 alkyl or benzyl;
- R3 is C1-C18 alkyl;
- n is an integer from 2 to 10;
- and X− is Cl−, Br−, I−, OH−, CH3COO−, ½ SO4−2, or ⅓ PO4−3.
A compound according to the following formula:
