Abstract
On-board model railroad speaker enclosure designs are presented that allow maximum sized speakers, improve impedance matching of sound to the outside of the locomotive, and isolate back and front speaker waves while maintaining the standard horizontal drive-train in model train locomotives.
Claims11
A model railroading diesel locomotive comprising:
- a chassis, having a top side and an underside, and having at least a first aperture extending through the chassis to provide communication between the top side and the underside;
- a generally hollow cab, engageable with the chassis generally overlying the top side of the chassis so as to define a substantially closed interior cab volume overlying the top side of the chassis;
- a substantially hollow speaker mounting assembly having an interior volume and coupled to the top side of the chassis inside the cab for supporting a speaker;
- and
- a speaker, mounted to the speaker mounting assembly so that a first side of the speaker is vented into the speaker mounting assembly interior volume and a second side of the speaker is vented outside the speaker mounting assembly into the cab interior volume, so that the speaker mounting assembly at least partially isolates front and back sound waves when emitted by the speaker;
- including a horizontal driveline disposed in the interior cab volume;
- and wherein the speaker mounting assembly maintains the speaker in a position overlying the horizontal driveline without contacting the driveline.

- wherein the two speakers are mounted in an A-frame configuration.
