Abstract
The present invention provides methods and compositions for the treatment of ion imbalances. In particular, the invention provides polymeric and pharmaceutical compositions comprising crosslinked amine polymers. Methods of use of the polymeric and pharmaceutical compositions for therapeutic and/or prophylactic benefits are disclosed herein. Examples of these methods include the treatment of renal diseases and hyperphosphatemia.
Claims42
A pharmaceutical composition comprising core-shell particles and a pharmaceutically acceptable excipient, said core-shell particles including a polymeric particle core microencapsulated in a polymeric shell, the polymeric particle core comprising crosslinked amine moieties, the polymeric shell comprising pendant acid groups.
A pharmaceutical composition comprising core-shell particles and a pharmaceutically acceptable excipient, said core-shell particles including a polymeric particle core microencapsulated in a polymeric shell, the polymeric shell comprising pendant acid groups, and the polymeric particle core comprising crosslinked amine moieties derived from crosslinking an amine of formula (I) with a crosslinking agent,
- wherein each n, independently, is equal to or greater than 3;
- m is equal to or greater than 1;
- and each R1, independently, is H or optionally substituted alkyl or aryl or is linked to a neighboring R1 to form an optionally substituted alicyclic, aromatic, or heterocyclic group.
A pharmaceutical composition comprising core-shell particles and a pharmaceutically acceptable excipient, said core-shell particles including a polymeric particle core microencapsulated in a polymeric shell, the polymeric shell comprising pendant acid groups, and the polymeric particle core comprising crosslinked amine moieties derived from crosslinking an amine of formula (IV) with a crosslinking agent,
- wherein each n, independently, is equal to or greater than 3;
- each r, independently, is 0, 1, or 2;
- and each R1, independently, is H or optionally substituted alkyl or aryl or is linked to a neighboring R1 to form an optionally substituted alicyclic, aromatic, or heterocyclic group.
A pharmaceutical composition comprising core-shell particles formulated with a pharmaceutically acceptable excipient into an oral form, said core-shell particles including a polymeric particle core microencapsulated in a polymeric shell, the polymeric shell comprising a polyacrylic acid polymer, and the polymeric particle core comprising crosslinked amine moieties derived from crosslinking an amine of formula
- with a crosslinking agent, wherein n is 3, 4 or 5.
