Abstract
A printer filter including a companion script file and which filters a standard printer data stream to perform a user-specified print job. In particular, the filter is a computer program which may access other programs or data files, and which reads a standard printer data stream, transforms the input in accordance with instructions contained within the computer program, and then outputs the filtered or transformed information to the printer. The present invention also provides a graphical user interface to assist a user in operating the computer program. In particular, the graphical user interface includes a parent window having a display control which list a possible filters to be selected, along with a plurality of other display controls to assist the user in operating the computer program product.

A graphical user interface comprising:
- a first parent window including:
- a first display control configured to display a child window listing a plurality of first filters having instructions corresponding to a print operation,
- a second display control configured to display a list of second filters, and
- a third display control configured to activate a help window including help text corresponding to a selected filter.
A graphical user interface comprising:
- a first parent window including:
- a first display control configured to display a child window listing a plurality of first filters having instructions corresponding to a print operation,
- a second display control configured to display a list of second filters, and
- a third display control configured to activate a preview application.
A graphical user interface comprising:
- a first parent window including:
- a first display control configured to display a child window listing a plurality of first filters having instructions corresponding to a print operation,
- a second display control configured to display a list of second filters, and
- a third display control configured to activate a text editor.
A graphical user interface comprising:
- a first parent window including:
- a first display control configured to display a child window listing a plurality of first filters having instructions corresponding to a print operation, and
- a second display control configured to display a list of second filters that include a list of last filters selected.
A graphical user interface comprising:
- a first parent window including:
- a first display control configured to display a child window listing a plurality of first filters having instructions corresponding to a print operation, and
- a second display control configured to display a list of second filters,
- wherein another child window is displayed prompting a user for parameters corresponding to a selected filter when one of the first and second display controls are selected.
A graphical user interface comprising:
- a first parent window including:
- a first display control configured to display a child window listing a plurality of first filters having instructions corresponding to a print operation,
- a second display control configured to display a list of second filters, and
- a companion script file including parameters corresponding to a filter so as to provide filter flexibility.
