## Abstract

An apparatus for illuminating wine or other liquids, whereby the user can limit the amount of sediment that is allowed to escape from the bottle. The apparatus comprises a collar, an arm, a body, a light source, and a switch. The collar can be hingedly attached to the arm with a spring-loaded hinge. The collar can have a hole large enough to accommodate the neck of a majority of wine or other bottles currently manufactured. The body can be attached to the arm via a retaining member, such that the body is freely positionable along the arm. The light source can be fixedly attached to the body, or hingedly attached thereto.

## Claims

### Claim 1

An apparatus for illuminating the contents of a bottle, the bottle comprising a neck, the apparatus comprising:
a collar, wherein the collar comprises a hole, and wherein the hole is large enough to permit the neck of the bottle to fit therethrough;
an arm comprising a first hinge, wherein the arm is hingedly attached to the collar by a second hinge;
a body, wherein the body comprises a light source; and,
a retaining member, wherein the retaining member attaches the body to the arm, and wherein the retaining member permits the body to be moved along at least a portion of the arm.

### Claim 2 (depends on 1)

The apparatus of claim 1 wherein the light source is hingedly attached to the body by a third hinge.

### Claim 3 (depends on 2)

The apparatus of claim 2, wherein the spring biases the apparatus such that the light source is held proximate to the bottle.

### Claim 4 (depends on 2)

The apparatus of claim 2, wherein at least one of the first hinge and the third hinge further comprises a set screw.

### Claim 5 (depends on 1)

The apparatus of claim 1, wherein hinged connection between the collar and the arm further comprises a spring.

### Claim 6 (depends on 1)

The apparatus of claim 1, further comprising a switch, wherein the switch operates the light source.

### Claim 7 (depends on 1)

The apparatus of claim 1, wherein at least one of the collar, the arm, and the light source further comprises a non-skid material.

### Claim 8 (depends on 7)

The apparatus of claim 7, wherein the non-skid material comprises at least one O-ring.

### Claim 9 (depends on 7)

The apparatus of claim 7, wherein the non-skid material comprises a rubber coating.

### Claim 10 (depends on 1)

The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the hole has a diameter, and the diameter is selected to be wider than the widest neck of traditional wine bottles.

### Claim 11 (depends on 1)

The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the arm comprises at least one stop.

### Claim 12 (depends on 11)

The apparatus of claim 11, wherein the at least one stop can disengaged.

### Claim 13 (depends on 1)

The apparatus of claim 1, wherein a length of the arm is adjustable.

### Claim 14 (depends on 13)

The apparatus of claim 13, wherein the arm length is adjusted telescopically.

### Claim 15

An apparatus for illuminating the contents of a bottle, the bottle comprising a neck, the apparatus comprising:
a collar, wherein the collar comprises a hole, and wherein the hole is large enough to permit the neck of the bottle to fit therethrough;
an arm, wherein the arm is hingedly attached to the collar, the hinge comprising at least one spring, wherein the arm further comprises a first hinge;
a body, wherein the body comprises a light source; and,
a retaining member, wherein the retaining member attaches the body to the arm, and wherein the retaining member permits the body to be moved along at least a portion of the arm.

### Claim 16 (depends on 15)

The apparatus of claim 15, wherein at least one of the collar, the arm, and the light source comprise a non-skid material.

### Claim 17 (depends on 16)

The apparatus of claim 16, further comprising a second hinge, wherein the second hinge connects the light source to the body.

### Claim 18 (depends on 17)

The apparatus of claim 17, wherein at least one of the first hinge and the second hinge comprises a set screw.

### Claim 19 (depends on 15)

The apparatus of claim 15, further comprising a switch, wherein the switch controls the operation of the light source.

### Claim 20

An apparatus for illuminating the contents of a bottle, the bottle comprising a neck, the apparatus comprising:
a collar, wherein the collar comprises a hole, and wherein the hole is large enough to permit the neck of the bottle to fit therethrough;
an arm, wherein the arm is hingedly attached to the collar by a first hinge;
a body, wherein the body comprises a light source, wherein the light source is hingedly attached to the body by a second hinge; and,
a retaining member, wherein the retaining member attaches the body to the arm, and wherein the retaining member permits the body to be moved along at least a portion of the arm.

### Claim 21 (depends on 20)

The apparatus of claim 20, wherein hinged connection between the collar and the arm further comprises a first spring.

### Claim 22 (depends on 21)

The apparatus of claim 21, wherein the first spring biases the apparatus such that the light source is held proximate to the bottle.

### Claim 23 (depends on 21)

The apparatus of claim 21, wherein hinged connection between the body and the light source further comprises a second spring, and wherein at least one of the first hinge and the second hinge further comprises a set screw.

### Claim 24 (depends on 20)
