Abstract
Radiation detection assemblies and related methods, including methods of making radiation detection assemblies and devices, as well as methods of performing radiation detection. A radiation detection assembly includes a radiation detector comprising a scintillator layer and an optically transparent substrate, the detector having a first side and a second side, a first imaging photodetector optically coupled to the first side of the detector, and a second imaging photodetector optically coupled to the second side of the detector, wherein at least one of the photodetectors is a position-sensitive imaging photodetector.

A radiation detection assembly, comprising:
- a radiation detector comprising a flexible scintillator detector comprising a scintillator layer deposited on a first resin layer;
- and an optically transparent substrate, the radiation detector having a first side and a second side;
- a first imaging photodetector optically coupled to the first side of the detector;
- and
- a second imaging photodetector optically coupled to the second side of the detector, wherein at least one of the photodetectors is a position-sensitive imaging photodetector.
A method of making a radiation detection assembly, comprising:
- coupling a flexible scintillator detector comprising a scintillator layer deposited on a first resin layer to an optically transparent substrate so as to produce a detector having a first side and a second side;
- optically coupling the first side to a first imaging photodetector;
- and
- optically coupling the second side to a second imaging photodetector, wherein at least one of the photodetectors is a position-sensitive imaging photodetector.
A method of making a position-sensitive radiation detection device, comprising:
- producing a flexible scintillator detector by forming a first resin coating on a substrate, depositing a scintillator layer on the first resin coating, and removing from the substrate the combination of the first resin coating and the scintillator, thereby producing a flexible scintillator comprising the first resin coating and scintillator layer;
- optically coupling a first side of the flexible scintillator detector to a first imaging photodetector;
- and
- optically coupling a second side of the flexible scintillator detector to a second imaging photodetector, wherein at least one of the photodetectors is a position-sensitive photodetector.
A method of performing radiation detection, comprising:
- providing a radiation detection assembly comprising a radiation detector comprising a flexible scintillator detector comprising a scintillator layer deposited on a first resin layer;
- and an optically transparent substrate, the detector having a first side and a second side, a first imaging photodetector optically coupled to the first side of the detector, and a second imaging photodetector optically coupled to the second side of the detector, wherein at least one of the photodetectors is a position-sensitive imaging photodetector;
- and
- positioning a target within a field of view of the scintillator as to detect emissions from the target.
A radiation detection assembly, comprising:
- a radiation detector comprising a flexible scintillator detector comprising a scintillator layer deposited on a first resin layer;
- and an optically transparent substrate, the detector having a first side and a second side;
- a first two-dimensional position-sensitive imaging photodetector optically coupled to the first side of the detector;
- a second two-dimensional position-sensitive imaging photodetector optically coupled to the second side of the detector, and
- a module to process the dual energy information from said first and second two-dimensional position-sensitive imaging photodetectors to output a tissue characterization image.
A method of making a position-sensitive radiation detection device, comprising:
- producing a flexible scintillator detector by forming a first resin coating on a substrate, depositing a scintillator layer on the first resin coating, and removing from the substrate the combination of the first resin coating and the scintillator, thereby producing a flexible scintillator comprising the first resin coating and scintillator layer;
- optically coupling a first side of the flexible scintillator detector to a first two-dimensional position-sensitive imaging photodetector;
- optically coupling a second side of the flexible scintillator detector to a second two-dimensional position-sensitive imaging photodetector, and
- processing the dual energy information from said first and second two-dimensional position-sensitive imaging photodetectors to output a tissue characterization image.
