Nucleoside compounds for treating viral infections

A compound of formula I:

• wherein:
• Y is O or CH2;
• X is selected from halo and O—W2;
• each of W, W1 and W2 is independently selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, C1-C4 alkyl, acyl, oxyacyl, phosphonate, phosphate esters, phosphate, phosphonamidate, phosphorodiamidate, phosphoramidate monoester, cyclic phosphoramidate, cyclic phosphorodiamidate, and phosphoramidate diester, provided that when X is —O—W2, one of W, W1 and W2 is C1-C4 alkyl;
• R3 is selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, OH, acyl, C1-C4 alkyl, and C1-C4 alkoxy;
• T is selected from the group consisting of:
• a) —C≡C—R, where R is selected from the group consisting of:
• i) hydrogen;
• ii) tri(C1-C4)alkylsilyl, —C(O)NR1R2, alkoxyalkyl, heteroaryl, substituted heteroaryl, phenyl, and substituted phenyl;
• where R1 and R2 are independently selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, alkyl, substituted alkyl, amino, substituted amino, aryl, substituted aryl, heteroaryl, substituted heteroaryl, heterocyclic and substituted heterocyclic provided that only one of R1 and R2 is amino or substituted amino, and further wherein R1 and R2, together with the nitrogen atom pendant thereto, form a heterocyclic or substituted heterocyclic;
• and
• iii) —C(O)OR14, where R14 is hydrogen, alkyl or substituted alkyl;
• b) —CH═CH-Q2, where Q2 is selected from hydrogen or cis-alkoxy;
• c) —C(O)H;
• d) —CH═NNHR15, where R15 is hydrogen or C1-C4 alkyl;
• e) —CH═N(OR15), where R15 is as defined above;
• f) —CH(OR16)2, where R16 is C3-C6 alkyl;
• g) —B(OR15)2, where R15 is as defined above;
• and
• h) —NO2;
• or pharmaceutically acceptable salts or partial salts thereof;
• provided that when R3 is hydrogen, OH, or C1-C3 alkoxy, then X is halo or —O(C1-C4 alkyl).
