Abstract
The present invention is generally directed to electroluminescent Ir(III) compounds, the substituted 2-phenylpyridines that are used to make the Ir(III) compounds, and devices that are made with the Ir(III) compounds.
Claims10
An organic electronic device comprising at least one layer comprising a composition of Formula I
- wherein:
- R1=H, F, or CnF2n+1;
- R2=H, or CnF2n+1;
- R3=NO2, Me (methyl) or NR2;
- R=is the same or different at each occurrence and is alkyl, aryl, or adjacent R groups are alkylene or substituted alkylene and can join together to form a 5- or 6-membered ring;
- L′=a bidentate ligand and is not a phenylpyridine, phenylpyrimidine, or phenylquinoline;
- L″=a monodentate ligand, and is not a phenylpyridine, phenylpyrimidine, or phenylquinoline;
- m=1 or 2;
- y=1 or 2;
- z=0 or 2;
- and
- n is an integer from 1 through 20,
- with the proviso that the composition is charge neutral and the iridium is hexacoordinate;
- and wherein at least one L′ is a phosphino alkoxide ligand of Formula IV:
- where
- R7 can be the same or different at each occurrence and is selected from H and Cn(H+F)2n+1;
- R8 can be the same or different at each occurrence and is selected from the group of Cn(H+F)2n+1, C6(H+F)5, C6H5−n(R9)n, and (CH2)nC(Cn(H+F)2n+1)2OH;
- R9=CF3, C2F5, n-C3F7, i-C3F7, C4F9, or CF3SO2;
- and
- q is 2 or 3
- or
- L′ is selected from the group of ligands having structure according to Formula V:
- Ar[—(CH2)r—Y]p Formula V
- wherein
- Ar is phenyl;
- Y is P(Ar)2;
- r is 0 or an integer from 1 through 20;
- p is 1 or 2, wherein the carbon in one or more of the (CH2) can be replaced with a heteroatom and one or more of the hydrogens in one or more of the (CH2) can be replaced with D or F
- and wherein if m=2, then each occurrence of
- can be the same or different.
