Abstract
The present invention provides novel silicon compounds, methods for making these novel silicon compounds, compositions comprising these novel silicon compounds attached to substrates, methods for attaching the novel silicon compounds to substrates and methods for using the compositions in a variety of chromatographic applications.

A composition comprising a compound covalently bound to a substrate, said compound having structural Formula (II):
- or salts, solvates or hydrates thereof,
- wherein
- R1, R2 and R3 are independently alkyl, alkoxy, alkoxycarbonyl, alkylsulfonyloxy, amino optionally substituted with one or more of the same or different R12 groups, aryl, aryloxycarbonyl, aryloxy, arylsulfonyloxy, halo or hydroxyl provided that at least one of R1, R2 and R3 is covalently bound to said substrate;
- L1 is at least C8 alkanyldiyl;
- L2 is alkyldiyl or aryldiyl;
- Y is —S—, —O—, —C(O)N(R4)—, —N(R4)C(O)—, —N(R4)S(O)2—, —S(O)2N(R4)—, —C(O)O—, —OC(O)—, —OC(O)N(R4)—, —N(R4)C(O)O—, —N(R4)C(O)N(R5)— or —N(R4)C(S)N(R5)—,
- wherein
- R4 and R5 are independently hydrogen, alkyl, substituted alkyl, aryl or substituted aryl;
- and
- W is ZOH, -(Z)nN(R6)(R7), -(Z)nN+(R6)(R7)(R8)X−—, or -(Z)nOP(O)(OR9)(OR10) or -(Z)nB(OR9)(OR10)(OR11),
- wherein
- R6, R7 and R8 are independently hydrogen, alkyl or substituted alkyl;
- R9, R10 and R11 are independently hydrogen, alkyl, substituted alkyl, aryl or substituted aryl;
- R12 is hydrogen or alkyl;
- X− is an anionic counterion;
- Z is aryl or substituted aryl;
- and
- n is 0 or 1.

A composition comprising the formula:

- R1 and R3 are members independently selected from alkyl, alkoxy, alkoxycarbonyl, alkylsulfonyloxy, aryl, aryloxycarbonyl, aryloxy, arylsulfonyloxy, halo, hydroxyl or amino, wherein said amino is optionally substituted with one or more alkyl group, with the proviso that at least one of R1 and R3 is alkyl;
- L1 is at least C8 alkanyldiyl;
- L2 is alkyldiyl or aryldiyl;
- Y is —S—, —O—, —C(O)N(R4)—, —N(R4)C(O)—, —N(R4)S(O)2—, —S(O)2N(R4)—, —C(O)O—, —OC(O)—, —OC(O)N(R4)—, —N(R4)C(O)O—, —N(R4)C(O)N(R5)—or —N(R4)C(S)N(R5)—,
- wherein
- R4 and R5 are independently hydrogen, alkyl, substituted alkyl, aryl or substituted aryl;
- and
- W is ZOH, -(Z)nN(R6)(R7), -(Z)nN+(R6)(R7)(R8)X—, -(Z)nOP(O)(OR9)(OR10) or -(Z)nB(OR9)(OR10)(OR11);
- wherein
- R6, R7 and R8 are independently hydrogen, alkyl or substituted alkyl;
- R9, R10 and R11 are independently hydrogen, alkyl, substituted alkyl, aryl or substituted aryl;
- X is an anionic counterion;
- Z is aryl or substituted aryl;
- and
- n is 0 or 1,
- or a salt, solvate or hydrate thereof.
