Abstract
A method of determining a friction coefficient μ in a contact area of a tire on a road. Fixed points are selected that lie at different azimuths along a circumference of at least one bead of the tire. A shear stress value is measured at each of the fixed points while the tire is rolling on the road. The measured shear stress values are processed to determine the friction coefficient μ.
Claims11
A method of determining a friction coefficient μ in a contact area of a tire on a road, comprising:
- selecting a plurality of fixed points within at least one bead of the tire, wherein the plurality of fixed points lie at different azimuths along at least one circle within the at least one bead of the tire;
- measuring a shear stress value at each of the plurality of fixed points while the tire is rolling on the road;
- and
- processing the measured shear stress values to determine the friction coefficient μ.
