Method and apparatus for managing defects in recording media, a computer readable medium including computer readable code for the same, and a defect managed recording medium obtained using the same method, apparatus, and computer readable medium

A method of reproducing data on a recording medium comprising a data area disposed between a lead-in area and a lead-out area, including a user data area and at least a spare area having a replacement area for recording data for replacing a defective area occurring in the user data area, and a defect management area arranged in one of the lead-in area and the lead-out area, via defect management, comprising:

• reading defect information for identifying positions of a defective area and a replacement area, and defect management information to manage the defect information from the defect management area of the recording medium;
• and
• reproducing the data from the replacement area used to replace the defective area, based on the defect information,
• wherein position information regarding the defective area is recorded together with the data for replacing the defective area in the replacement area located in the spare area.
