Abstract
Apparatus for supporting a heat exchanger such as a condenser of an air conditioning system on a vehicle, for pivotal movement between an operational position and a position angularly related to the operational position, for such purposes as inspection, cleaning, service and maintenance, the apparatus being configured for holding the heat exchanger in the operational position, and for guiding and controlling movement thereof to the tilted position, and holding the heat exchanger in the tilted position.
Claims14
Apparatus for supporting a heat exchanger mounted on a vehicle for pivotal movement in opposite first and second directions between a first pivotal position and a second pivotal position tilted relative to the first pivotal position, comprising:
- an elongate arm having a first end, a second end opposite the first end, the first end being pivotally connected to the vehicle adjacent to a side of the heat exchanger for pivotal movement of the arm relative to the vehicle in the first and second directions, and an element on the heat exchanger cooperatively received in a slot in the arm which curves in the second direction away from the first end of the arm such that when the heat exchanger is in the first pivotal position, the element will be located adjacent to the first end of the arm and the arm will be positioned generally beside the heat exchanger so as to hold the heat exchanger in the first pivotal position, and wherein the arm can be manually pivoted from the position beside the heat exchanger in the first direction to cause the element to move along the arm toward the second end of the arm to simultaneously pivot the heat exchanger in the first direction to the second pivotal position.
A heat exchanger assembly for mounting on a vehicle, comprising:
- a heat exchanger having opposite first and second air flow surfaces facing in a first direction andante opposite second direction, respectively, and opposite sides extending between the first and second air flow surfaces;
- a support structure mountable to the vehicle and including a support member configured to extend in an upstanding orientation when the structure is mounted to the vehicle, the heat exchanger including a lower portion mounted to the support structure for pivotal movement of the heat exchanger between a first pivotal position generally beside the support member and a second pivotal position at an acute angle to the first pivotal position;
- and
- an elongate arm having opposite first and second ends, the first end being pivotally connected to an upper end of the support member for pivotal movement of the arm in the first and second directions, and a slot in the arm extending generally between and terminating at the first and second ends, the heat exchanger including an element cooperatively received in the slot for movement therealong, such that when the heat exchanger is in the first pivotal position, the element will be located in the slot adjacent to the first end of the arm and the arm will be positioned generally beside the heat exchanger and the support member so as to hold the heat exchanger in the first pivotal position, and wherein a force can be applied against the arm so as to be pivoted from the position beside the heat exchanger and the support member in thefirst direction to cause the element to move in the slot toward the second end of the arm to pivot the heat exchanger in the first direction to the second pivotal position.
A heat exchanger assembly for mounting on a vehicle, comprising:
- a first heat exchanger having opposite first and second air flow surfaces, for air flow through the heat exchanger, and opposite sides extending between the first and second air flow surfaces;
- a second heat exchanger having opposite first and second air flow surfaces for the flow of air therethrough;
- and
- a support structure mountable to the vehicle and including a lower support member for mounting to the vehicle, and a pair of upwardly extending support members having lower ends connected to opposite ends ofthe lower support member and extending upwardly therefrom in spaced apart relation, the first heat exchanger including a lower portion mounted to the support structure for pivotal movement of the first heat exchanger in opposite first and second directions between an upstanding first pivotal position generally between the upwardly extending support members and a second pivotal position tilted in the first direction at an angle to the first pivotal position, the second heat exchanger being mounted to the support structure in an upstanding orientation spaced in the second direction from the first heat exchanger, such that air can flow in the first and second directions directly through the heat exchangers when the first heat exchanger is in the first pivotal position, and a pair of elongate arms, each of the arms having opposite first and second ends, the first ends of the arm being pivotally connected to upper ends of the upwardly extending support members, respectively, for pivotal movement of the arms in the first and second directions relative to the support structure, each of the arms including a slot extending generally between the first and second ends thereof, and elements on the first heat exchanger cooperatively received in the slots of the arms for movement therealong, respectively, such that when the first heat exchanger is in the first pivotal position, the elements will be located in the slots adjacent to the first ends of the arms and the arms will be positioned generally beside the upwardly extending support members, respectively, so as to hold the first heat exchanger in the first pivotal position, and wherein the arms can be jointly pivoted to positions oriented at an acute angle to the upwardly extending support members to cause the elements to move in the slots to positions adjacent to the second ends of the arms to simultaneously pivot the first heat exchanger in the first direction away from the second heat exchanger to the second pivotal position.
