Abstract
A method for controlling a detonation altitude of a radar equipped munition is described. The method includes calculating a velocity of the munition while the munition is at an altitude greater than the desired detonation altitude, determining when the munition is at a reference altitude, and calculating a time representing when the vehicle will reach the desired detonation altitude based on the calculated velocity and determined reference altitude. The method also includes generating a fusing signal to detonate the munition after the calculated time has passed.
Claims7
A munition comprising:
- a sequencer configured to receive a detonation altitude for said munition;
- a radar receiver, said radar receiver comprising a radar range gate programmed with a first altitude and a reference altitude based on the received detonation altitude;
- a radar transmitter configured to operate in a pulse repetition frequency mode while the munition is outside the radar range gate;
- a velocity detector configured to determine a velocity of said munition based on radar ground return signals passed through said range gate at the first altitude;
- and
- a time delay controller, said time delay controller configured to generate a detonation signal for said munition based on the received detonation altitude, the detected velocity of said munition, and the reference altitude of said munition;
- wherein said radar transmitter is configured to transmit a continuous wave transmission for a predetermined period of time upon a determination that said munition is at an altitude represented by the first altitude setting of said radar range gate.
