Abstract
A terrain database that is rendered in three-dimensional perspective on a Synthetic Vision display in a moving vehicle is updated in real-time in response to data from a ranging sensor. The updated database may be stored and shared with users of displays in other vehicles.
Claims17
A terrain display system comprising:
- a ranging sensor;
- a position and attitude sensor;
- a terrain database;
- a display;
- and,
- a fusion and graphics processor that
- combines data from the ranging sensor, the position and attitude sensor, and the terrain database;
- and,
- sends to the display a synthetic image of terrain data that represents terrain as it would appear to an observer located and oriented according to position and attitude data provided by the position and attitude sensor;
- wherein,
- the terrain database is updated in response to data from the ranging sensor.
8 more elements
A method for updating a terrain database comprising:
- providing a ranging sensor, a position and attitude sensor, a terrain database, and a fusion and graphics processor;
- initializing the sensors, database, and fusion and graphics processor;
- retrieving Synthetic Vision data from the database according to position and attitude data provided by the position and attitude sensor;
- using real-time data from the ranging sensor to adjust and update the Synthetic Vision data;
- and,
- repeating the retrieving and using until a signal to stop is received.
