Abstract
An inbred rice line designated 054001 is disclosed. The invention relates to the seeds of inbred rice line 054001, to the plants of rice line 054001 and to methods for producing a rice plant produced by crossing the line 054001 with itself or another rice line. The invention further relates to hybrid rice seeds and plants produced by crossing the line 054001 with another rice line.
Claims23
A seed of inbred rice line 054001, wherein a representative sample of seed of said inbred rice line was deposited under ATCC Accession No. PTA-8505.
A method of introducing a desired trait into inbred rice line 054001 wherein the method comprises:
- (a) crossing a 054001 plant, wherein a representative sample of seed was deposited under ATCC Accession No. PTA-8505, with a plant of another rice line that comprises a desired trait to produce progeny plants wherein the desired trait is selected from the group consisting of male sterility, herbicide resistance, insect resistance, modified fatty acid metabolism, modified carbohydrate metabolism and resistance to bacterial disease, fungal disease or viral disease;
- (b) selecting one or more progeny plants that have the desired trait to produce selected progeny plants;
- (c) crossing the selected progeny plants with the 054001 plants to produce backcross progeny plants;
- (d) selecting for backcross progeny plants that have the desired trait and the physiological and morphological characteristics of inbred rice line 054001 to produce selected backcross progeny plants;
- and
- (e) repeating steps (c) and (d) three or more times to produce selected fourth or higher backcross progeny plants that comprise the desired trait and all of the physiological and morphological characteristics of rice line 054001 as listed in Table 1.
