Abstract
Alpha, omega-difunctional aldaramides, in particular diaminoaldaramides, dihydroxyaldaramides, bis(alkoxycarbonylalkyl)aldaramides, and bis(carboxyalkyl)aldaramides, and processes for preparing the aldaramides are provided.

A compound of Formula I
- and salts thereof, wherein n=4 and R1 and R2 are independently selected from optionally substituted hydrocarbylene groups, wherein the hydrocarbylene groups are aliphatic or aromatic, linear, branched, or cyclic, and wherein the hydrocarbylene groups optionally contain —O— linkages.
A compound of Formula I
- and salts thereof, wherein n=2 and wherein R1 and R2 are compounds of Formula IV,
- wherein the open valences indicate where R1 and R2 are attached to the nitrogens in Formula I and wherein either open valence can be attached to the terminal, primary amino (NH2) group of Formula I.
