An anti-atherosclerosis composition comprising a LDL-oxidation inhibiting effective amount of phytoene, phytofluene or mixtures thereof and a method for inhibiting the progression of atherosclerosis.

A method for inhibiting the progression of atherosclerosis, comprising the administration of an effective anti-LDL-oxidation amount of phytoene, phytofluene or mixtures thereof, substantially free of any other active component, to a subject in need thereof.
