A safety device comprising a housing, an extendable tube located in the housing, and a light source for illuminating the extendable tube. The extendable tube is translucent and may be extended from a first position to a second position.

A safety device comprising:
- a tube with an axial split to allow it to be transversely opened and flattened, and longitudinally coiled;
- a housing that accommodates, in size, an opened, flattened tube coiled around an axis;
- and
- a light source;
- wherein the extendable tube extends from a first position as a coiled flat piece of material to a second position as a thin walled tube.
