A belt tensioner for a safety belt comprises a housing in which a piston is displaceable, and an exit port, wherein the exit port is arranged in the wall of the housing.

A belt tensioner for a safety belt, comprising a housing in which a piston is displaceable, and an exit port, characterized in that said exit port is arranged in the wall of the housing, said exit port being formed of a material that can be melted off by compressed gas used for shifting said piston.
