Abstract
A vegetation cutter to be mounted on a support vehicle for transport and deployment, has a housing with a rotating blade therein. The housing has a roller mounted for rotation forming the bottom edge of a side of the housing. The roller supports the cutter, allowing the cutter to slide along the ground when moved in a forward direction. When the support vehicle changes direction, the roller rotates, reducing the required force for turning the vehicle and cutter.
Claims3
A cutter unit of the type to be moved along the ground for cutting vegetation, and to be carried by a vehicle having at least one vertically movable lift arm with an attachment point that can under power be placed in both a raised and a lowered position relative to the ground, said cutter unit having a housing having at least one of front and rear ends, said cutter unit further comprising:
- a) a lifting bracket on the housing at a point spaced from the center of gravity and for connection to the attachment point on the lift arm, said lift arm attachment point and lifting bracket cooperating to allow lifting of the cutter unit from the ground;
- and
- b) a longitudinal roller mounted for rotation about an axis extending generally from the rear end of the housing to the front end of the housing, said roller forming at least a part of a side of the housing;
- c) wherein at least one end of the roller is tapered;
- and
- d) wherein a central portion of the roller adjacent to the tapered end has a frusto-conical surface.
