Abstract
Iron pentacarbonyl is prepared by reacting iron with carbon monoxide in suspension and in the presence of a mixture of alkali metal sulfide and sulfur as a catalyst.

A process for preparing iron pentacarbonyl by reacting iron with carbon monoxide which comprises providing a suspension of iron particles in an inert suspension medium and reacting the suspended iron particles with the carbon monoxide in the presence of a mixture of alkali metal sulfide and sulfur as catalyst.
