Abstract
A coaxial cable connector includes a connector body, a mandrel disposed inside the connector body and a compression member radially adjacent to one end of the connector body. A plurality of inner rings and at least one outer ring are interleaved in a wedging relationship inside the connector body outside a portion of a mandrel. As the compression member is axially advanced, the inner and outer rings are driven into a wedging engagement between the coaxial cable and the connector body. At least one of the inner rings is composed of a deformable material which when compressed forms a continuous seal with the coaxial cable.
Claims33
A cable connector, comprising:
- a connector body having an inner cavity and externally threaded portion;
- a mandrel fitted inside said cavity for receiving a prepared coaxial cable end at an end of said connector body;
- a plurality of inner rings that are operatively associated with at least one outer ring, said inner and outer rings are located within the inner cavity and are interleaved with one another so that side surfaces of adjacent the inner and outer rings are disposed in a wedging relationship;
- and
- a compression member has an internally threaded portion that is threadedly engaged over said connector body and configured for applying an axial force to drive said inner and outer rings into a wedging engagement with each other and wherein said plurality of inner rings compress against said coaxial cable in response to said axial force.
A cable connector, comprising:
- a connector body having an inner cavity;
- a mandrel comprised of electrically conductive material fitted inside said cavity for receiving a prepared coaxial cable end at an end of said connector body;
- a plurality of inner rings operatively associated with at least one outer ring located within the inner cavity, said inner and outer rings being interleaved with one another so that side surfaces of adjacent rings are in a wedging relationship;
- and
- a compression member disposed radially adjacent to said connector body for sliding axial movement over to the connector body wherein said inner and outer rings are driven into wedging engagement with each other and wherein said plurality of inner rings compress against said coaxial cable.
A cable connector, comprising:
- a connector body having an inner cavity and externally threaded portion;
- a mandrel fitted inside said cavity for receiving a prepared coaxial cable end at an end of said connector body;
- a plurality of rings that are located within the inner cavity and are interleaved with one another so that side surfaces of adjacent rings are disposed in a wedging relationship;
- and
- a compression member having an internally threadedly portion that is threaded engaged over said connector body and configured for applying an axial force to drive said plurality of rings into a wedging engagement with each other and wherein at least one of said plurality of rings compresses against said coaxial cable and where each of said rings are manufactured as a one-piece component that mostly surrounds said coaxial cable.
A cable connector, comprising:
- a connector body having an inner cavity and externally threaded portion;
- a mandrel fitted inside said cavity for receiving a prepared coaxial cable end at an end of said connector body;
- a plurality of rings that are located within the inner cavity and are interleaved with one another so that side surfaces of adjacent rings are disposed in a wedging relationship;
- and
- a compression member having an internally threaded portion that is threadedly engaged over said connector body and configured for applying an axial force to drive said plurality of rings into a wedging engagement with each other and wherein at least one of said plurality of rings compresses against said coaxial cable and where said compression member is configured to directly engage at least one of said plurality of rings.
