Abstract
The present invention is a differential transconductance amplifier circuit that includes matched cross-coupled transconductance elements connected such that the differential gain of the amplifier is determined by only passive elements. By virtually eliminating the effects of active elements on the amplifier gain, the amplifier operates in a very linear manner over its entire operating range. Power consumption, amplifier noise level, and dynamic range can be optimized with appropriate selection of the passive elements that determine amplifier gain.

A differential amplifier circuit comprising:
- a first input transconductance element comprising:
- a first control input adapted to receive a first input signal;
- a first current input;
- and
- a first current output adapted to provide a first output signal;
- a second input transconductance element comprising:
- a second control input adapted to receive a second input signal;
- a second current input;
- and
- a second current output adapted to provide a second output signal;
- a first cross-coupled transconductance element comprising:
- a third control input coupled to the second current input;
- and
- a third current output coupled to the first current input;
- and
- a second cross-coupled transconductance element comprising:
- a fourth control input coupled to the first current input;
- and
- a fourth current output coupled to the second current input,
- wherein the first input signal and the second input signal form a differential input signal, and the first output signal and the second output signal form a differential output signal.
