The present application provides GB virus C sequences (GBV-C or hepatitis G virus) and methods of using the sequences.

An isolated and purified nucleic acid molecule encoding an infectious GBV-C, wherein the nucleic acid molecule encodes SEQ ID NO:20, or a variant thereof, wherein said variant is 99% identical to SEQ ID NO:20.
A host cell comprising a nucleic acid molecule encoding an infectious GBV-C, wherein the nucleic acid molecule encodes SEQ ID NO:20, or a variant thereof, wherein said variant is 99% identical to SEQ ID NO:20.
An isolated and purified nucleic acid molecule comprising SEQ ID NO:19.
