Abstract
Preparation of sintering resistant hexaaluminates, AAl11O18, wherein A is an alka-line earth or rare earth metal, and more particularly lanthanum, by a combination of sol-gel and microemulsion techniques using a water soluble salt of A, and a method of forming spherical pellets thereof are disclosed.
Claims16
Method of preparation of high-temperature stable hexaaluminates, AAl11O18, wherein A is an alkaline earth or rare earth metal, having improved sintering resistance, characterised in that
- a solution of an aluminium alkoxide is added to a water-in-oil microemulsion, the aqueous phase of which comprises a solution of a water soluble salt of A, whereafter powder formed is recovered and calcined.
High-temperature stable hexaaluminate, LaAl11O18, having improved sintering resistance,
- formed as a recovered powder from a solution of aluminum alkoxide in a water-in-oil microemulsion,
- the aqueous phase of said microemulsion comprising a solution of a water soluble salt of La,
- the recovered powder having been calcined at 800-1200° C., and
- exhibiting about 10 m2/g BET surface area after ageing in 60% steam at 1400° C. for 2 hours.
