Abstract
Systems, components, and methods relating to subterranean containment barriers. Laterally adjacent tubular casings having male interlock structures and multiple female interlock structures defining recesses for receiving a male interlock structure are used to create subterranean barriers for containing and treating buried waste and its effluents. The multiple female interlock structures enable the barriers to be varied around subsurface objects and to form barrier sidewalls. The barrier may be used for treating and monitoring a zone of interest.
Claims22
A method of installing a subsurface barrier, comprising:
- emplacing a first casing having at least one male interlock structure and a plurality of female interlock structures defining recesses adjacent to a zone of interest, the casing further comprising a chamber at least partially defined by an inner wall within the first casing, and a slot through the inner wall between the chamber and a female interlock structure;
- emplacing a second casing having at least one male interlock structure and a plurality of female interlock structure recesses adjacent to the zone of interest, such that the at least one male interlock structure of the second casing is received by at least one female interlock structure recess of the first casing;
- and
- forming a seal between the first casing and the second casing to form a continuous subsurface barrier.
