Abstract
This invention relates to an electrosurgical device having a hollow shaft, an electrically conductive distal tip that is also adapted for penetrating bone, and an intermediate electrically insulating spacer.
Claims13
An electrosurgical device, comprising:
- a) a hollow shaft made of an electrically conductive material having an annular wall having a longitudinal bore therein, a proximal portion and a distal portion, and a first window extending transversely through the annular wall and defining an inside rim, and
- b) a first electrode disposed within the window and being in electrical connection with a power supply, and
- c) an electrically insulating material disposed between and contacting the entire inside rim of the first window and the first electrode to electrically isolate the first electrode from the inside rim of the window.
An electrosurgical device, comprising:
- a) a hollow shaft having an annular wall having a longitudinal bore therein, a proximal portion and a distal portion, and a first window extending transversely through the annular wall and having an inside rim, and
- b) an active electrode disposed within the window and being in electrical connection with a power supply, and
- c) a return electrode disposed within the window and being in electrical connection with the power supply, and
- d) an electrically insulating material disposed between and contacting the entire inside rim of the first window and the electrodes to electrically isolate the electrodes from the inside rim of the window.
