Abstract
A method for segmenting an image is disclosed wherein a fractal map of the image is generated by estimating the fractal dimension of each pixel in the image. The image is segmented by thresholding the fractal map of the image.
Claims15
An automatic method of fractal transforming and segmenting a low light/low contrast illuminated image comprising the computer-implemented steps of:
- generating a fractal map of the low light/low contrast image wherein a plurality of boundary images is formed from the image;
- segmenting the image based on the fractal map by applying a threshold to the fractal map;
- and
- estimating a fractal dimension of at least one pixel of the image from the plurality of boundary images.
