Abstract
Accordingly, this invention provides a fastener system which is weldable to a substructure that overcomes the problems and disadvantages of the fasteners of the prior art. Generally, a weldable fastener is disclosed that has a coating applied to at least one surface of the fastener. The coating functions to prevent the deposit of a further coating, particularly an electrodeposition coating, upon further processing.
Claims20
A weldable threaded fastener configured to be coupled to a surface, the fastener comprising:
- a coating on a portion of the threaded fastener, the coating comprising an epoxy material and micronized polyethylene wax;
- and
- a weldment portion being configured to be welded to the surface, wherein the coating retains a capacity to resist adherence of a second coating after the weldment portion is welded to the surface.
A weldable metallic fastener comprising:
- a flange configured to be welded to a surface;
- a threaded body portion at least partially coated with a coating layer obtained by applying an aqueous composition comprising a binder comprising phenoxy resin, an epoxy resin, or both, and further comprising a micronized polyethylene wax, wherein the coating layer retains a capacity to resist adherence of a second coating after the flange is welded to the surface.
