Abstract
A method for enhancing an aerodynamic performance of an unmanned projectile. The method including at least one of the following: (a) morphing a cross-sectional shape of the projectile after launch thereof; (b) morphing a longitudinal shape of the projectile after launch thereof; (c) bleeding a fluid at a base of the projectile during flight thereof: (d) varying a base cone angle of the projectile as a function of speed thereof; (e) deploying at least one wing from a body of the projectile after launch thereof; and (f) deploying a fin from the body of the projectile after launch thereof.
Claims9
An unmanned projectile, the projectile comprising:
- a base having a plurality of panels that are movable relative to a body of the projectile to form an angle with the body;
- two or more circumferential members operatively attached to one or more of the plurality of panels for varying a base cone angle of the projectile as a function of speed thereof to increase an aerodynamic performance of the unmanned projectile, the varying being in discrete steps and each of the two or more circumferential members acting to restrain the plurality of panels at a different predetermined angle with the body;
- and
- means for sequentially releasing the two or more circumferential members.
A method for varying a base cone angle of an unmanned projectile the projectile having a base, the base having a plurality of panels that are movable relative to a body of the projectile to form an angle with the body, the method comprising:
- varying a base cone angle of the projectile as a function of speed thereof to increase an aerodynamic performance of the unmanned projectile by sequentially releasing each of two or more circumferential members operatively attached to one or more of the plurality of panels, each of the two or more circumferential members acting to restrain the plurality of panels at a different predetermined angle with the body;
- wherein the varying is in discrete steps.
An unmanned projectile, the projectile comprising:
- a base having a plurality of panels that are movable relative to a body of the projectile to form an angle with the body;
- and
- means for continuously varying an angle of the plurality of panels relative to the body, the means for continuously varying an angle of the plurality of panels relative to the body comprising at least one circumferential member operatively attached to one or more of the plurality of panels to restrain the plurality of panels at a predetermined angle with the body and an actuator operatively connected to the at least one circumferential member for varying a length of the at least one circumferential member.
