Abstract
An organic electroluminescent (EL) device which contains a novel coumarin derivative composed of a coumarin ring, a naphthalene ring with one or more hydrocarbon groups, and a five-membered hetero ring condensed with the naphthalene ring so as to give an electronic resonance through the coumarin and naphthalene rings. The coumarin derivative emits a visible luminescence with a satisfactory color purity, which consistently continues over a long period of time even at an elevated temperature when used in such an organic device.
Claims7
An organic electroluminescent device which comprises a coumarin derivative represented by either General Formula 1 or 2 and optionally a luminescent compound as a host compound, with the proviso that, when said luminescent compound is used, said coumarin derivative is used as a guest compound for said luminescent compound:
- wherein in General Formulae 1 and 2, X denotes a carbon atom or a heteroatom;
- R1 to R14 independently denote a hydrogen atom or a substituent, provided that R6 is not a cyano group R3 and/or R4 are absent when R1 and/or R2 form a ring structure containing both the nitrogen atom linked with R1 and/or R2 and the carbon atom linked with R3 or R4;
- at least one of R9 to R12 is a hydrocarbon group which may bear a substituent;
- R13 and R14 do not form a phenyl group and in the case that X is a divalent or trivalent heteroatom, R7 and/or R8 are absent.
A luminescent agent in an organic electroluminescent device comprising the coumarin derivative represented by either General Formula 1 or 2:
- wherein in General Formulae 1 and 2, X denotes a carbon atom or a heteroatom;
- R1 to R14 independently denote hydrogen atom or a substituent, provided that R3 and/or R4 are apparently absent when R1 and/or R2 form a ring structure containing both the nitrogen atom linked with R1 and/or R2 and the carbon atom linked with R3 or R4;
- at least one of R9 to R12 is a hydrocarbon group which may bear a substituent;
- and in the case that X is a divalent or trivalent heteroatom, R7 and/or R8 are absent.
