Abstract
Methods of employing bone defect filling, e.g., orthopedic cements, such as calcium phosphate cements and the like, are provided. A feature of the subject methods is that vibration is employed in conjunction with the use of the cement, e.g., in preparation of the cement, in preparation of the target site, in delivery of the cement to the target site, and/or following delivery of the cement to the target site. Also provided are devices, systems and kits that find use in practicing the subject methods. The subject methods, devices and systems find use in a variety of different applications.
Claims11
A method of introducing a calcium phosphate cement composition into a target bone site, said method comprising:
- engaging a needle holder with a threaded recess in a vibratory element;
- seating a needle in the needle holder;
- positioning a hardware device at a target bone site;
- and
- delivering said calcium phosphate cement composition to a target bone site through the needle to produce a composite fixation structure of said hardware device and said cement at said target site, wherein said cement is vibrated as it is delivered to said target bone site in a manner such that penetration of said cement into said target bone site stops substantially simultaneously with cessation of vibration.
