Golf club assembly with recessed adjuster assembly

A golf club assembly comprising:

• an elongate hollow shaft tapering from an opened first end to a second end and having a neutral axis of bending located along a center line of the hollow shaft wherein the hollow shaft includes a handle portion located at the first end for a user to grip and a bend point along the shaft and tip flex at the portion of the hollow shaft adjacent the second end;
• an insert secured within the hollow shaft only between the first end and the bend point of the shaft so that the hollow shaft is free of the insert between the bend point and the second end,
• a load member disposed within the hollow shaft along the neutral axis with a first end portion coupled to the insert;
• and
• an adjuster assembly coupled between the hollow shaft and a second end portion of the load member for tensioning the load member so as to adjust the bending stiffness of the hollow shaft between the insert and the adjuster assembly, the adjuster assembly being disposed entirely within and spaced a distance inwardly in an axial direction from the first end of the hollow shaft toward the second end for facilitating trimming of the first end of the hollow shaft.
