Abstract
Gel-forming macromers including at least four polymeric blocks, at least two of which are hydrophobic and at least one of which is hydrophilic, and including a crosslinkable group are provided. The macromers can be covalently crosslinked to form a gel on a tissue surface in vivo. The gels formed from the macromers have a combination of properties including thermosensitivity and lipophilicity, and are useful in a variety of medical applications including drug delivery and tissue coating.
Claims17
A pharmaceutical formulation of a gel-forming macromer, comprising
- a macromer comprising at least four covalently linked polymeric blocks, at least one thermally sensitive region, and at least one covalently crosslinkable group, and wherein at least two of the blocks are hydrophobic, and at least two of the blocks are hydrophilic,
- said macromer being dispersed or solubilized in a pharmaceutically acceptable aqueous solution or suspension,
- whereby the formulation is capable of reversibly transitioning from a liquid state to a gel state by an increase in temperature.
