Abstract
A single subscriber line multi-point communication system is disclosed. In general, the multi-point communication system can include a first transceiver coupled to a subscriber line capable of transmitting and receiving at least two modulation methods, either of said modulation methods being operable to transmit a test signal, and a second transceiver coupled to said subscriber line capable of transmitting and receiving said at least two modulation methods, the second transceiver being operable to receive the test signal and determine at least one channel parameter from the test signal. A master transceiver that can be used in various embodiments of a single subscriber line multi-point communication system, and a tributary transceiver are further disclosed.
Claims19
A multipoint communication system, comprising:
- a first transceiver coupled to a subscriber line capable of transmitting and receiving data using at least two modulation methods, at least one of said modulation methods being operable to transmit a test signal;
- a second transceiver coupled to said subscriber line capable of transmitting and receiving said at least two modulation methods, the second transceiver being operable to receive the test signal and determine at least one channel parameter from the test signal.
A multipoint communication system, comprising:
- at least one tributary transceiver coupled to a master transceiver through a subscriber line, said at least one tributary transceiver being operable to transmit and receive data using at least two modulation methods, and being further operable to determine at least one channel parameter from a first test signal sent using at least one of said at least two modulation methods.
A method of testing channel parameters, comprising:
- communicating with a master transceiver using at least two modulation methods;
- and
- using a test signal transmitted using one of said at least two modulation methods on said subscriber line to determine at least one channel parameter,
- wherein the step of using a test signal transmitted using one of said at least two modulation methods on said subscriber line to determine at least one channel parameter, comprises
- receiving a test signal using a second modulation method on said subscriber line;
- and
- calculating at least one channel parameter from the test signal.
