Abstract
A method of activating a hydrogen storage alloy. The method includes the step of contacting the hydrogen storage alloy with an aqueous solution of an alkali metal hydroxide where the concentration of the alkali metal hydroxide is at least about 42 weight percent. The method produces a hydrogen storage alloy with increased surface area.

A method of activating a hydrogen storage alloy, said method comprising the step of:
- contacting said hydrogen storage alloy with an aqueous solution of an alkali metal hydroxide having a concentration of at least 47 weight percent.
A method of activating a hydrogen storage alloy, said method comprising the step of:
- contacting said hydrogen storage alloy with an aqueous alkaline solution having a hydroxide ion concentration of at least 12.29 M.
