Abstract
Asphalt-based coating compositions and surfactants. The asphalt-based coating compositions have improved performance and comprise asphalt, clay, and a propoxylated alcohol-based ether amine salt surfactant.
Claims48
A composition comprising:
- about 50 to about 98 weight percent asphalt cutback;
- about 1.7 to about 47.4 weight percent clay;
- and
- a salt surfactant having the general structural formula I:
- wherein, R1 is a linear, branched or cyclic, saturated or unsaturated aliphatic or alkylaryl group having between about 8 to about 24 carbon atoms, m is an integer from 1 to about 4, R2 is an n-propyl or iso-propyl group and X— is an anion, said salt surfactant being present in sufficient amount to impart a desired viscosity to the composition.
