Abstract
A self-contained marine propulsion device is disposed within a container, or pod, that is removably attachable to an undersurface of a deck of a pontoon boat. An engine is contained within the container and connected in torque transmitting relation with the marine propulsion device which can be a sterndrive device or a jet drive device. The marine propulsion system is dirigible, with a portion that is rotatable about a generally vertical steering axis and is supported by the container which is attached to the deck of the pontoon boat.
Claims31
A marine propulsion system for a pontoon boat, comprising:
- a container;
- an internal combustion engine disposed within said container;
- and
- a marine propulsion device connected in torque transmitting relation with said internal combustion engine, said marine propulsion device having a dirigible segment which is supported by said container for rotation about a generally vertical steering axis, said container being attachable to an underside of a platform of said pontoon boat with said internal combustion engine being disposed below a top surface of said platform.
A marine propulsion system for a boat, comprising:
- a container, said container being removably attachable to an underside of a platform which is attached between two flotation members;
- an engine disposed within said container;
- and
- a marine propulsion device connected in torque transmitting relation with said engine, said marine propulsion device having a dirigible portion supported by said container for rotation about a steering axis, said engine being disposed entirely beneath a top surface of said platform when said container is attached to said underside of said platform which is attached between said two flotation members.
A marine propulsion system for a boat, comprising:
- a container, said container being removably attachable to an underside of a deck of said boat, said deck being supported between two buoyant members;
- an engine disposed within said container;
- a marine propulsion device, said engine being connected in torque transmitting relation with said marine propulsion device, said marine propulsion device being a sterndrive device having a dirigible portion supported by said container for rotation about a generally vertical steering axis, said engine being disposed completely below the plane of an upper surface of said deck when said container is attached to said underside of said deck;
- a fuel reservoir disposed within said container and connected in fluid communication with said internal combustion engine;
- and
- an electrical storage battery disposed within said container and connected in electrical communication with a starter motor of said internal combustion engine.
A marine propulsion system for a pontoon boat, comprising:
- a container;
- an internal combustion engine disposed within said container;
- a marine propulsion device connected in torque transmitting relation with said internal combustion engine, said marine propulsion device having a dirigible segment which is supported by said container for rotation about a generally vertical steering axis, said container being disposed completely under an underside of a platform of said pontoon boat with said internal combustion engine being disposed below a top surface of said platform;
- and
- a fuel reservoir which is removably disposed within said container and connected in fluid communication with said internal combustion engine.
