Abstract
The invention provides isolated cellulose synthase nucleic acids and their encoded proteins. The present invention provides methods and compositions relating to altering cellulose synthase levels in plants. The invention further provides recombinant expression cassettes, host cells, transgenic plants, and transgenic seeds.

An isolated nucleic acid molecule comprising a polynucleotide selected from the group consisting of:
- a) the polynucleotide of SEQ ID NO:
- 1 encoding a functional cellulose synthase;
- b) a polynucleotide which is fully complementary to the polynucleotide of (a).
An isolated nucleic acid molecule comprising a polynucleotide selected from the group consisting of:
- (a) a polynucleotide encoding the functional cellulose synthase polypeptide of SEQ ID NO:
- 2;
- and
- (b) a polynucleotide which is fully complementary to the polynucleotide of (a).
